There Board of Management met in April and May and we would like to bring you up to date with what’s happening around the school.
Seven of our students will be graduating at the end of June. We wish them every success in the in the future and hope that they enjoy their new placements in adult services. Good bye and best of luck to Adam, Abbie, Conor, Edward, Glen Kristof and Jack. There will be a Graduation ceremony in Kilmullen Lane for the students and their families on the 28th of June.
13 students made their confirmation in St. Joseph’s Church in Newtown on the 19th of May. Congratulations to Conor, Dylan, Adam, Seamy, Ciara, Ryan, Lucy, Stephanie, Cian, Robert, Nathan, Robert and Alex. Thanks to everyone who helped prepare the children for their confirmation and for making the day so special. Thanks to the Parent’s Association (PA) for hosting a lovely reception in Kilmullen Lane for everyone afterwards.
Discover Primary Science
The school participated in the Discover Primary Science Programme again this year. Samples and logs of the students’ work and projects were submitted for evaluation. The work we submitted was highly commended and the school received an award of excellence. Well done to everyone.
ASDAN (Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network)
Many of our post primary age students are now participating in Asdan and have completed a range of modules from the programme. Work from a number of students was submitted for modulation in May. We received was very positive feedback on the standard of the work and the students will receive their certification at the end of June. We will be having an “open afternoon” towards the end of June where the students will be presented with their certificates and their work will be displayed.
Garden Area at front of Kilmullen Lane
Well done to one of our students Glen who has been working on a gardening project for the past few months. Glen has created a beautiful garden area at the front of Kilmullen Lane; it looks brilliant and has been admired by everybody.
Enrolment for September
Five new pupils will be enrolling in the school in September.
Teachers Jane and Kate will be taking leave of absence for one year.
SNAs Regina, Deirdre, Maggie and Una will be job sharing for the coming year.
SNA Sinead will be taking leave of absence for one year.
SNA Jackie is retiring. Thanks to Jackie for all her hard work over the years, we wish you all the best for your retirement.
The Board regrets that it is unable to provide July Provision for the students this year. The reason for this is that we do not have a sufficient number of teachers and snas available to run the programme.
School Calendar 2017/2018: The Board approved the school calendar for next year. Students will return to school on Thursday 31st August, there will be a two day midterm break in February (15th & 16th) and a week’s midterm break in May (7th-11th).
The Board of Management will be taking over responsibility for the provision of school transport and bus escorts for the new school year. The Department of Education and Skills (DES) will continue to fully fund the school transport system for all of the students enrolled in the school. Bus Eireann will contract the buses and drivers and the Board of Management will employ the bus escorts. We will forward you more detailed information about this at a later stage but please be assured that school transport will be in place for the 31st of August for all students who travel on the school buses. The Board of management will continue to work closely with St. Catherine’s Association to ensure the smooth transition of the transport service to the school. We extend our thanks to all the drivers and escorts for the excellent transport service they have provided over the past years, they have been brilliant.
Site for new school
The process of finding a site for the new school is ongoing and the DES is looking at a number of sites in the area as part of this process.
Thanks to the PA for all the work they have done over the past couple of months. Many of the small areas outside the classrooms in the EDC have had a makeover and can now be used by the students as small play areas and garden areas. Lots of equipment, colourful fencing, plants, a concreted area and a lovely canopy have appeared as if by magic! Thank you from all the students and staff.
The PA would be delighted if more parents would join them and help out at some of the events and projects they are working on.
Voluntary work in Kilmullen Lane
One of the parents has organized a team from BT to do some work in Kilmullen Lane in July. The team plan to paint the main corridors, tidy up the playgrounds and paint some of the playground equipment. Thanks to Stephen Brady for organizing this.
